You need to set up a Sametime community

In your Notes 8 Client, choose File -->
Preference --> Sametime --> Server communities.
This is where you configure the integrated ST plugin. It's different from pre-8 releases and even 8 Basic client, where the location doc was used to configure ST. The new preferences are stored in your data\workspace folder, so if you've already done this and it's still broken, rename the folder and restart the Client.
